When designing this bathroom in Waterbury, Vermont, our goal was to create a space that felt both calming and functional, featuring the home’s stunning view of Camel’s Hump in the distance. Every material that we used was selected with intention, balancing warmth and timeless design details that would feel just as beautiful years from now as they do today.

Below, we highlight the materials we chose for the renovation, and how they add to the overall look and feel of the space. We think the final result turned out pretty well!

Floating White Oak Vanity with Reeded Details

At the center of the design is a custom suspended vanity crafted from Plato Woodwork white oak cabinetry in a natural finish. The floating design helps keep the room feeling open and airy, while the reeded drawer fronts add texture and visual movement throughout the space.

Below, you can see what the vanity looked like before the update:

Calacatta Vermont Quartz for a Cohesive Look

To complement the warmth of the cabinetry, we used Calacatta Vermont Quartz for both the countertops and shower bench. The soft veining is incredibly elegant, while maintaining the durability needed for everyday use.

Repeating the quartz throughout the room helps create cohesion, and allows the materials to feel intentional rather than overly layered.

Elevated Fixtures and Lighting Selections

California Faucets fixtures were selected for their understated sophistication and craftsmanship. Paired with Hubbardton Forge sconces, the space takes on a warm, ambient glow that feels especially inviting during Vermont winters.

Lighting plays an enormous role in bathroom design, and incorporating decorative fixtures alongside functional task lighting helps elevate the overall experience of the room.

A Sculptural Freestanding Tub as the Focal Point

One of the most striking elements of the space is the Badeloft island tub. Sculptural yet minimalist, it creates a focal point that transforms the bathroom into something that feels more like a personal retreat than a purely functional space. Most importantly, its position allows for a gorgeous view of Camel’s Hump in the distance.

Below, you can see how the updated freestanding tub changes the look and feel of the space:

Functional Storage with Integrated Lighting

Additional functionality was integrated through Plato full-height linen cabinets, which provide both storage and practical lighting without disrupting the clean look of the room. We loved how the floor-to-ceiling design creates plenty of storage space without getting in the way of the flow of the space.

The final result is an updated bathroom that feels layered, modern, and connected to the natural materials used throughout the design. By combining texture, warm wood tones, soft lighting, and timeless finishes, this renovation became a space designed not only for daily routines, but for slowing down and enjoying them.
